Arm Lift
Arms are increasingly an area that women, in particular, worry about over time, exercise can't always address 'bingo wings' so surgery is usually the only option
The appearance of loose skin on the upper arm is seen as a stigma of aging especially as it becomes more pendulous.
The difficulty with loose upper arm skin is that virtually the only treatment involves surgery. Women will very diligently go to the gym to try and tone their upper arms through exercise and weight lifting but invariably this makes little difference.

Brachioplasty or Arm Lift surgery is a procedure designed to remove excess and sagging skin from the upper arms often referred to as ‘Bingo Wings’.

Ageing and Weight Loss particularly as a result of bariatric surgery (Weight Loss Surgery) can leave patients feeling conscious of their upper arms. Our goal is to create a more natural, toned area by removing the unwanted excess skin to achieve tighter and smoother upper arms.

“I had a wonderful experience with Patrick, he is not only a great surgeon but he has extraordinary empathy and I always felt totally at ease with him.”

The Procedure

Brachioplasty surgery is carried out under General Anaesthetic. The procedure usually takes around 2hrs to perform and an overnight stay in hospital is required.

An incision is made between the elbow and armpit, the length of the incision depends on the severity of the condition. The excess skin is excised along with any unwanted fat to create a more shapely and aesthetically pleasing appearance, the area is then sutured. In some cases the patient may require Liposuction in addition to achieve the best result. Surgical drains may be used to drain any excess fluid. Surgical dressings are applied and compression garments are placed on the area which will need to be worn for several weeks following surgery to retain the shape and reduce swelling.

Risks and Complications

Common side effects can include bruising, swelling and numbness which will usually subside as the area begins to heal.
There are more uncommon complications associated with Arm Reduction surgery such as infection, haematoma, delayed healing, skin necrosis/loss and thick scarring. General Anaesthesia carries its own risks for example, cardiac/respiratory issues and DVT. Our team of nursing staff monitor the progress of patients for signs of these complications very carefully post operatively and patients are given contact information should they need medical assistance once discharged from the hospital.

Once the healing process is complete it is important to maintain a healthy weight through a stable diet and exercise plan to maintain the result.
